Freeway provides a three tier analysis schema in terms of which all work can be analysed.  The three levels are:

Type: such as 'Maintenance'

Sub-Type: such as 'Brakes'

Component: such as 'Calipers'.

There are various schemas that have been devised within the engineering industry.  These can be set up in Freeway or a unique schema can be entered.  In choosing or developing a schema the following should be considered:

  1. Freeway provides 'fuzzy' warranty match at a 'Component' level.  Specifically - at the point of issuing a part you can view a list of other parts issued to the same asset where the 'component' category is shared. For this reason the 'Component' category should not be so specific that no list of similar components is produced, but nor should it be so generic that the list is so long that relevant details will be hidden.
  2. Freeway provides repeat defect reporting against any of the three levels 'Type', 'Sub-Type' or 'Component'.  Again the structure of the schema should be developed to group similar vehicle systems together so that repeat defects can be readily identified. Bear in mind that repeat defects can be generated at a Sub-Type level to investigate broad similarities while the Component level can be used for more specific investigation.
  3. Cost Analysis can be developed against any of the three levels. Again these should be devised in accordance with the level of reporting that you require.
