Freeway provides three Reason Codes.  The following conventions are recommended:

Reason 1: Utilise to record the underlying cause of a problem or preventative action:

Examples include:

Reason 2: Utilise to record the nature of the defect or preventative action:

Examples include:

Reason 3: Optional in accordance with your operational requirements:

Use to differentiate items in any way you see fit.

Note: Reason codes apply across all types of items: Defects, Labour, Schedule Items and Parts. As such the reason codes should be applied to all items that you wish to report on consistently. For example, if you wish to report on the impact of 'Vandalism' it could be recorded as a 'Reason 1' Code and should be consistently recorded against all Defects, Labour, and Parts records to which it applies. If it is applied only to 'defects' but not to 'parts' records it will not be possible to identify the full impact of this reason code. In fact reason codes should be defined and used in such a way that they bring together different categories of record.
